FAQ

Product basics

What is kava?

Kava (Piper methysticum) is a plant from the pepper family grown across the South Pacific islands. For centuries, communities in Vanuatu, Fiji, and Tonga have prepared its root as a traditional drink for ceremony, connection, and winding down. The active compounds are called kavalactones, and they're what give kava its calm, settled feeling.

What exactly is KAVA EXTRACT 30%?

It's a concentrated kava root extract powder — not raw ground root, and not a flavored instant drink mix. We start with noble kava root from Vanuatu and use supercritical CO₂ extraction to concentrate the kavalactones to 30%. You get the active ingredient itself, so you control the dose and the drink.

What does "30%" mean?

It means 30% of the powder's weight is kavalactones. One 1-gram serving delivers about 300 mg of kavalactones — comparable to a strong shell of traditional kava, without the straining and prep. Each 25 g jar holds a genuine 25 servings. We print real numbers, always.

Is this noble kava?

Yes. Our extract is made from noble kava root grown in Vanuatu — the variety traditionally cultivated for daily drinking in the islands.

Dosing & use

How much should I take?

Start with about 1 gram — roughly ¼ teaspoon. A gram scale is recommended (no scoop is included). Start low and go slow. More is not better: too much kava commonly causes nausea, while the right amount brings a calm, relaxed feeling.

How do I mix it?

Stir or shake into water, juice, tea, or a smoothie. Kava tastes earthy and bitter — most people prefer juice (pineapple and mango are popular) or a flavored tea over plain water. A shaker bottle or milk frother helps it blend smoothly.

Why does my mouth feel numb?

That brief tingling or numbness is normal — it's a classic sign of real kava, caused by the kavalactones themselves. It passes within minutes.

What if I take too much?

The most common result is nausea. If that happens, stop for the day, hydrate, and use a smaller amount next time.

Effects & timing

What does it feel like?

Most people describe a calm, settled body feeling with a clear head — relaxed but present. Kava is traditionally shared socially in the Pacific precisely because it eases you without clouding you.

How fast does it work, and how long does it last?

Most people notice effects within 15–30 minutes. The strongest window is relatively short — around 20–40 minutes — with a gentle lingering calm afterward for some. Effects vary meaningfully from person to person.

I don't feel anything. What am I doing wrong?

Three common reasons: the dose was too small, you took it right after a heavy meal (kava works best on a relatively empty stomach), or you're one of the people who need a few sessions before noticing much — a known pattern with kava called reverse tolerance. Adjust one variable at a time.

Safety

Is kava legal?

Yes — kava is legal to buy, sell, and consume in the United States as a dietary supplement.

Is kava addictive?

Kava is not considered physically addictive and is widely used in the Pacific as an alcohol alternative. As with anything you take to relax, use it intentionally.

Can I drink alcohol or take medication with kava?

Do not combine kava with alcohol or sedatives. If you take any medication — especially anything affecting the liver or nervous system — talk with a healthcare professional before using kava.

What about my liver?

The U.S. FDA advises that a potential risk of rare, but severe, liver injury may be associated with kava-containing supplements. Ask a healthcare professional before use if you have or have had liver problems, and stop use and see a doctor if you develop symptoms that may signal liver problems. We lab-test every batch and use noble kava root only.

Can I drive after taking kava?

Don't drive or operate heavy machinery if you feel drowsy or slowed. Learn how kava affects you before doing anything that requires full alertness.

Who shouldn't use kava?

Not for use by anyone under 18, or by women who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
